computer does not detect cd roms

Need help urgently
My PC all of a sudden would not recognize neither my cd rom or my cd burner.I have windows 98se, and the system does not show them anymore. Also when i try to add new hardare on the control panel, nothing shows up.
Even the device drivers to install new hardware does not show any cd rom devices or drivers. I cannot re-install anything without the cd drives
.

Do your cd-roms show when you boot the computer, is your bios detecting them.

No - it does not show up while booting or in the bios either

what are my options

Have you checked to make sure all of the cables are connected, power, ribbon. Set the Bios to auto detect drives and see if it picks them up. If not check the jumpers on the drivers, make sure one is master one is slave or both are cable select. See if that works.
