problem: while timmy was working inside a pc case (computer is turned on) he notices that there is a bare wire where a wire has come loose from a molex (hard drive/cd-drive power) adapter. while trying to reposition it he touches the wire on the floppy drive. following this there is a flash a small bang and a smell of smoke.

question: what happened when timmy touched the bare wire on the floppy drive? what two components will timmy most likely have to replace?

Im not sure what happened, but he probably blew a capicitor in the PSU and fried various components on the floppy drive and in the PSU, hence the reason why it smells.

yeah basically. as dumb as it sounds this is based on a true story. i did this!!! fortunately it only cost me an AT PSU and a floppy drive which i had about 10 spares of.

he decides to try and copy the hal.dll from his friend's computer, which is almost the same, but with a different motherboard.

sorry, not correct.
hal.dll contains information about your computer's hardware. since the motherboard is different, the information will be different, and it will not work on his system
