new hard drive problem

hello everyone,

I recently bought a 2nd hard drive a SATA Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 120GB. I use my other hard drive a maxtor 200GB at the moment and bought this as a backup. Iv been using everest and noticed the temp of my western digital to be 64C(145F) while my maxtor is only 34C. I installed the WD hard drive at least 1 space away from my maxtor could the software be wrong? or is that a normal temp?

I have also not used my new hard drive at all just formatted it nothing else no files have yet been put on thier.

Operating 41° F to 131° F
Non-operating -40° F to 149° F

Temperature (Metric)
Operating 5° C to 55° C
Non-operating -40° C to 65° C


Down at the bottom click on the environmental tab .

GUess that does not help but does show yor drive is within operational level.
Still dont know about why it is so hot and if it is not operating it should not be that hot.
You could assume the saoftware is wrong but i would try a different software to determine what the problem is.
