Big problem loading XP. Please help

i get this message on starting up xp pro.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\Config\System

what can i do to fix this without losing all my data.

\Windows\System32\Config\System, is not a file, it's a whole folder. It contains the system profile and a couple other pretty important items. If you have another computer or hdd that has windows NT/2000/XP than stick your corrupt one in that system, copy the files you want, then wipe out and reinstall windows. Its a little time consuming but it's probably the easiest way.

If you dont have access to a good hard drive with windows on it you can also use a copy of Knoppix or Windows PE to boot and then copy your files to a CD/DVD burner.
