try going to control panel, open the multimedia configurations. on the first panel on the bottom is a checkbox to place the sound icon on your taskbar.

also on the first tab you can see your playback devices, make sure yours is listed, there should be a drop down menu to select your audio device.

is it an actual sound card or onboard chipset? i have seen some soundblaster cards act up and the workable solution was to remove them from their pci slot on the motherboard, and slide it into a new slot, reinstall drivers etc ...

I am getting windows default sound when i turn on the computer.

In the control panel, Volume Check box is disabled.

In audio tab, No options are there in the drop-down boxes.

I am not sure about the type of sound cord. I will sure try to to remove and replace in another slot.

Thanks for the help. I will let you know again the progress.

Problem solved

I went through Some Dcoumentation on HP.com for sound card problems. It says to modify the BIOS settings to default.

I did that and now the problem is fixed.

Thanks for all your help guys.
