oh and i just read some more...

there is a transaction fee for paying the GST and import duties of NZ$22, so there we go, its all even hahahah

it might work out better if i just get some small items individually from the US. they'll sneak under the GST bullshit (i hope)

i'm rolling over the floor laughing...

i just done some comparisons. buying all from newegg and getting shipped...
and buying all from ascent.

for these items, (cpu, mobo, case, gpu, ram, hdd, and dvd+rw)

newegg: US$827.23
ascent: NZ$1897.65

okay, now thats a big different, if we normalise currency..
newegg is now NZ$1182.36. still big difference.

I did a little search on dhl international, i really have no idea of the most cost effective and safe way to ship here from US. I weighed my pc now on my digital scales, to get an idea of what the rough weight would be, around 15KG my one is, but i have a psu, adsl modem, fans, a guitar effects pedal, an extra hdd, floppy and optical drive in there, not to mention a few extra fans. So i guess, it would balance out with manuals and accessories in all the boxes. shipping for that would work out about US$330.

so adding that up we have, approx US$1160. then convert that to NZ dollars, we now have $1650 odd.. with GST having to pay on it at the border, which is at 12.5%, an extra $200 is added, so now i got it at NZ$1850.

around $47 difference hahahhha

now the funny bit is, if i buy from ascent direct deposit, i get 1.5% discount, so ascent is now $1868. heheh

i guess that site has really factored it all in with their prices. I won't complain anymore hahahah

wow you must have a lot of time on your hands

hahahah i'm on my holiday time, its quite good to have to sit down rest after working sometimes 36 hour shifts...

well, to resurrect this, i'm still in a bit of a dilemma.

I was always worried about multitasking performance of the athlon64 versus intel, as my stuff is video mostly. And almost everyone tells you, if video work, go intel. Well, i don't wanna go intel, cuz of the heat situation of those prescotts. Thats why i decided on athlon64. However, now that i've read up about the dual core x2's, i've stopped and thought a little more. I've heard that the x2 3800+ is like having 2 3200+ on one chip, and the overclocking abiility is still there. i'll get the benefit of multitasking (which i'm doing all the time), plus the cool runnings of the amd 64 platform. woohoo

but, price is still over twice that of the 3200+, i'll wait. Yeah, i know i'm a surgeon, but hey, i still paying off my medical degree, and paying off my mortgage, car.....

Hey alsyed, where in NZ are you? AUckland? If so, check out PC Alpha in Newmarket, they specialise in high end PC stuff, plus if you get to know the guy well or tell him Allan sent you here, he might give you a discount~ lol :p you can go to their website at pcalpha.co.nz
