Which core yields higher overclocks? I found that Venice has insane oc's but then found out the SD has the same architecture as the Venice.

Venice overclocks higher. But San Diego is avaliable for better processors.

Would you prefer a venice 3200 512 MB L2 or a San Diego 3700 1mb L2 for overclocking or performance?

You are unlikley to get a good venice/san diego now. The Venice did get the highest overclock (the best was the 3000.) The reason for this is, the 3000 was exactly the same as a 3800, just with a different multiplier. So with a good motherboard, and good ram, you will get those insane speeds.

But anyway, now you are unlikley to get them, as a 3000 is designed as a 3000 and so on. So if you are just getting a processor, and want the best one, get the san diego, as it has 1mb of cache where as the venice has 512.

Venice will most likely yield higher overclocking potential as it uses less vcore and produces less resistance
