disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

My computer was running fine until yesterday I fired it up & up popped this message. disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. I'm running XP Pro. alo when I go to My Computer and the disk is not there. Any ideas on how to fix. Thanks

when you say disk, do you mean hard drive?

I belive floppy you would get Invalid system disk,I think hes talking bout sys dish,, if thats the case try using repair function on XP

sounds like a problem with your boot sector. try booting from the XP disk and repair the windows installation

I've had some problems like this with my computer. What I did was opened up the case, and checked the IDE connection to the hard drive. Seems that must have wiggled loose a little bit.

If you feel ok opening up the case, try that before you try to repair XP.

yes I mean hard drive (sorry). I have opened the case and cleaned out all the dust & checked the cables. Thanks

no. I tried to repair but it asks me for the admin I have no password so I press enter and it goes to c:\windows. I think I'm just going to format. Although i don't want to format my E drive Thanks
