A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. HELP!!!

I am using two Hitachi 250GB SATA Drives.

AMD Athlon XP 3400+
Current BIOS for my Abit AV8
Windows XP Pro SP2

Computer worked fine. Turned it off for the night, when I tried to boot it up the next morning I received the error,

A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

Tried restarting several times. No luck.

Please someone, I'm in need of serious help!

Install / Repair Operating System.

I tried booting to CD (XP) and it loads the CD where it says, "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration...", then that screen disappears. From that point, the screen remains black.

test it with this. boot from cd and test hd with norton disc doctor. there are other testing tools there too, like the diagnostic tool for your hard drive

I'm downloading the CD right now from a torrent (DL@300KB/s+ instead of 18KB/s on your host). This way I can get it quickly.

Can you run Norton Disk Doctor without being able to boot up?

My computer won't even boot up! I'm using a borrowed laptop!

Safe mode ...


If that still doesn't work you should probably slave the HDD to pull the data off while you still can.
reformat and install.

F8 when the computer leaves thie BIOS screen.

F8 doesn't work. I power on the computer and it gives the ABIT Logo. I press TAB to go to the next screen (Phoenix BIOS) and try hitting F8 several times. It doesn't respond, and goes directly to the VIA RAID BIOS Screen which shows that I have two 250.06GB Serial ATA Drives. It then asks if you want to boot from CD....
