wweeeeellll.......
re-installed windows today! plugged in the USB2 Card and hey presto.....autimatically installs!!
the whole reason i wanted to install this USB2 card was to see if that was the problem with windows recognising my external HD (trying to plug a USB2 device into a USB1.1 port!!) and turns out my problem is fixed!! im over the moon!!!
