Popping in my mp3's? help!

I have been backing up all of my cds to mp3's so i can have them when i am typing papers and stuff. I am using imTOO mp3 encoder but i keep getting little pops in the mp3, Is it the program im using? what program should i use? could it be the cd-rom im using? im using a plextor cd-r 40/12/40. Pls help.

a little better on ripping scratched cds would be EAC

The only problem with EAC is the length of time it takes to rip scratched cd's. I've been ripping scratched cd's from a friend of mine (uh, for his back-up) and they take over an hour for the ones that are bad ... the quality is great though.
