I was given an old dell with win2000 on it, I want 98. I formatted win2000 in order to put 98 on it. I formatted it alright with a startup disk when it finised it went back to A:> I typed D: at the A: prompt, it went to D:\> I typed setup to setup win 98 an it went back to D:\>

Any ideas?

why go back to 98? win2k will keep you running a lot longer, and as far as i can tell, there is no reason to go that way...

as to your problem... you didnt' get any prompts? did you try typing setup.exe and see if it made a difference?

Cant think of anything else...

type "dir" to see what files are on the disk. should be able to set up cd as first boot device and boot and install off the cd.

I typed in dir. These what files on the win 98 CD :

ATTRIB EXE
CHKDSK EXE
COMMAND COM
DEBUG EXE
EDIT COM
EXT EXE
EXTRACT EXE
FORMAT COM
HELP BAT
MSCDEX EXE
README TXT
RESTART COM
SCANDISK EXE
SCANDISK INI
SYS COM

should not have to type setup. just put the cd in take out the 3 1/2" floppy and let it auto run from the cd.
