graphics and memory update

Hi all,

first of all I'm a computer noob so please bare with me...I'm looking to upgrade my sloooow pc to not so sucky...I'm a student so I can't afford to buy a new one out right so *ahem*
right now I have a P4 1.8ghz with 256mb memory and geforce2 32mb gfx card...I just want to upgrade enough to play games like medal of honor at more than 20-40fps...I've looked at upgrading memory and found this *clicky* 512mb for £78 but I don't know if it's good/fast/overpriced...and I have no idea what graphics cards would be compatible with my machine or how to test which ones are...if any of you guys can help it would be much appreciated...I have a budget of about £150-£200

Your graphics card really sucks. To get a new, compatibility should not be an issue. I would go for a 256MB graphics card.

you dont need 256MB graphics card, the 6600GT is 128MB and its perfectly fine.

i would say try to upgrade to 1GB but 768 is fine, and also try to upgrade your graphics, i would say a 6600GT, but if your psu isnt strong enough a 9600XTish?

when you say 768 would be fine do you mean I could buy the 512mb and keep my current 256mb attached? yes I know I am hugely noobie and yes, my current gfx sox...

keep the old 256MB and just keep adding memory unless you run out of slots, take out the one with th least memory which would be the 256MB stick.

it's not gonna slow my comp down having 2 memory cards? it is only 1.8ghz (bought it 4 years ago)...

I've been looking at gfx cards since you replied...all I can say is ^^
ddr video adaptor agp xt ati abit se man this is confusing...

I wanna get one cheaper than that £93 one since I'm only gonna use the computer for about half a year before I move to the US and get a good one...a card that would run medal of honor allied assault with settings high and or maybe battlefield 2 on low (I saw minimum specs for bf2 were 1.7ghz and 512mb but unsure about minimum gfx card required)

the one you linked to me is good, i would go with ATI and not sapphire, but people say they make good cards, i got one ATi card its not awesome but its good lol
