Pc Not recognising Memory ram upgade

Hi Everyone, My pc runs xp pro, Athlon 64 3000, 512mb DDR on a DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb 754 Motherboard. I recently upgraded the ram to 1024mb,using the same type of ram(Crucial Ballistix PC-4000 - 2x512mb) On boot up i found that only 512 is recognised. I have played musical ram trying to get the pc to recognise both rams together. It recognises both individually, but not together. Any suggestions Please.

Make sure your Slot Choice is valid.
Is this 1 Stick Of 1024 ?
If so Test other slots.

If its 2x 512:
Switch Sticks and see if it boots up.
Use the known good stick then switch to the other stick.
You also may need to skip a slot.
ex: 1 & 3 when using 2 sticks.

I would start off by updating your bios to the latest release.

Hi, This is 2 sticks of 512mb(exactly the same type) and i've tried every different possible ram formation on the pc. still only 512 appears. Been on the dfi website to look for a bios update, but i'm not sure which one to download, Can anyone suggest which one, Also a friend told me updating the bios is sometimes hazardous, this concerns me.What do you think.

Have you been able to boot up with both sticks seperately ?
what I mean is, Have you tested to see if both sticks are working properly ?

Ive booted up with both sticks individually and they both work on their own

I am not going to follow this along. I have seen bad things come from flashing bios.

Have you done any Bios modification at all ?
Meaning have you set anything in the bios that is not default ?
