Sup guys. As you can tell im new here. Im in need of a new computer setup and i REALLY need your help so please help me out a bit since i dont know a whole lot.

"Current setup" I am currently using a 5-6 year old compaq. It is very slow and i cant do much with it.

It an AMD Duron 700 mhz
-ram is 64
-graphics card NVIDIA Vanta LT (whatever that is)
-sound card is Soundmax intergrated digital audio ( i think)
-20 gig of hard drive space

stock speakers
stock keyboard
new mouse
the monitor is a 15 inch crt. Its a Compaq MV540 ( the one i got)

My Plan
Im thinking of keeping the everything except the PC itself
and spending all the money for the PC instead of buying new speakers keyboards mouse etc and having a smaller budget for the PC. Once i build the PC I will then slowly upgrade the speakers keyboard mouse and monitor.

what the computer will be used for
-First i should let u know that this is NOT GAMING PC- i know this will save me alot of $$$ but im not into games.. my PS2 is good enough for me.

- What I need is enough storage for lots of VIDs (no not porn lol), audio files (ipods) and other junk.

I watch alot of vids and download music alot for my ipods.

I would love to finally have photoshop 7.0 and better ADOBE programs.

I plan on starting some video editing. I will get a camcorder soon and do some editing.. (mainly paintball vids and stuff.)

I will also watch a lot of dvds. (which is why im gonna save money for a 23" instead of getting a 17-19 now.

Also, im thinking of getting windows media center so i can download some tv shows if i want and also i have alot songs and vids.

ONE MORE THING:
Heat is a problem in my room. So the less the better.

K here is what i think:

CPU: Im thinking of a nice cpu between 250-450

Motherboard: Under 100-125 (dont know much about this)

RAM: Preferably a 1GB.

Video Card: Since this is not a hardcore gaming pc, i dont need the best card, but i still need a decent card cas i might play some games once in a while. also alot of photoshoping and maybe video editing.

Hard Drive: I need something big enough to download alot of files (audio and vid)

Optical Drive: what the hell is this lol

Power Supply: dont know anyhting here

Case: want something stylish

Sorry if some things dont make sense. Im new to pc's so PLEASE bare(SP) with me

Umm whats the point if you dont play games? Well anyway a DELL YES I SAID A DELL would be cheap for non gaming computer. This would be the only time I would reccomend the dell but the prices are hella cheap

Maybe look into a Pentium 4 for your processor, if you're not into the games so much. See this one

If you want to do major video/photo editing, I would suggest more than 1 GB of RAM. Go for 2, and look into DDR2 RAM.

If you want a lot of storage, I would suggest a RAID setup with two of these drives

For an optical drive (aka CD drive), you'll probably want a DVD burner if you're going to be doing movie work. They're cheap nowadays, under $100, and usually under $50. I can remember when a plain CD-RW drive was an amazing technological innovation... but I digress.

here is a very stylish and very affordable case on Newegg.

Be sure to remove the included power supply from the case, get an Antec, probably around 450W.

Edit: Also, I agree with Macdude in his videocard selection. A 6600GT is a great value, and plenty powerful.

get an X2 processr 3800+
MSI K8N NEO4-F
eVGA 6600GT
1GB valueselect ram *corsair*
hdd
optical drives
antec truepower 480W power supply
