Just a basic question. I plan to upgrade my PCs processor from a Celeron 2.7 gig to a P4 2.8 mhz. (My mobo will support both). Is there anything I need to do other than swap the processors and cooling fan? Thank you.

Be sure to clean the old thermal paste/pad off the heatsink before you apply new paste/pad... unless, of course, you go with a new heatsink.

Since you are going to be using a P4, a good aftermarket HS/F would be a smart investment. Lots and lots of heat...

Thanks for the reply. Just curious though. What's the best way to clean the thermal paste from a processor / heatsink?

I used paint thinner on a friend's, then after that, I cleaned it again with rubbing alcohol. It worked just fine. Also be careful not to touch the surface of the heatsink that will be making contact with your processor. Fingerprints can get in the way of heat transfer.
