In my Add or Remove Programs i have

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0____________________71.77MB
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4__________118.00MB

Can I remove the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 or do I need to keep both?

Keep them. Once is the program the other is the update

that update seems really big. i guess i don't understand why an update would be almost 1.5 times bigger than the program.

So you can be sure taht the program in this case a Java runtime has more features and is more secure perhaps just a guess.

Probably the same reason all of windows updates are bigger than windows itself
