Incorrect date Packard Bell

My wife has a Packard Bell ICONNECT 866
Model no. MON-Gl 1

Windows XP Professional

Since I installed a game from a PC weekly CD (oops) it's been playing up. The task bar disappeared behind a grey bar, so I popped the XP cd in & went through 'upgrade setup' I think it was. Works OK now, but the date is wrong upon startup.
Any ideas?
(I DID uninstall the game first up.)
Could this be hardware related?
I am most certainly a virgin techie- probably not a techie at all!

Have you tried setting the date back to normal then rebooting ?
If you have done this and the date still reverts back to something else or is slowing down or speeding up dates and times, that is classic cmos battery failure.
