thumbs.db file

thumbs.db is basically Window's way of archiving a picture into a thumbnail for quick/easy viewing of a picture.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to delete them.

If you don't want to see the thumbs.db file go to Windows Explorer ->Tools->Folder Options->View and check "Do not show hidden files and folders"

by unchecking the do not cache thumbnails option you will keep this file from being created

If you are constantly browsing through photos in thumbnail view like I am in the "My Photos" folder or wherever your photos are stored then I would leave it there. Otherwise you will have to wait for the thumbnails to load each time.

It is.

Is there any way just to disable it all together from Windows Xp?
If I want thumb nail, I use ACDSee instead.
