That 1.7Ghz processor will bottlekneck the hell out of the 6600GT. And I still remember a 3 year old Tiny machine I had which ran a Radeon 9200 fine with a 120W power supply xD. I would suggest either the Radeon 9600 or 9800.

I couldn't agree less. A 1.7 ghz P4 can handle a 6600GT. That's a bunch of phooey. If it's a P4, maybe excluding the socket 423's, then it can handle a 6600GT. They're virtually the same generation of technology. They were designed for each other.

I had a 1.8Ghz P4 not long ago, along with my 6600GT. Upgrading to a 3.0Ghz processor made such a difference that it was almost unbelievable. Even overclocking the 1.8 to 2.0 speed made a very notable difference.

Just a few examples of the speed increase when I purchased the new proc.

Before: (1.8Ghz P4)

3dmark 2001SE - 9500
CS:S (mid settings) - 30 - 40 FPS

After: (3.0Ghz P4)

3dmark 2001SE - 15000
CS:S (high settings) - 60 - 80 FPS

I haven't changed anything else on my pc since I had the 1.8Ghz P4, and as you can see, those scores are very different..

that's very, very strange though... I ran 3dmark 2001SE with my Athlon 64 3000+ and a puny x700 128mb setup, and I scored 15000. what's the difference?
