I am building a new computer to replace a NEC that has worn out. Do I have to buy a new Windows XP retail package to get the OS or will the XP disks that came with my Dell system work ???
A tech friend of mine said that the disks that came with the Dell will only work with another Dell...true...???
Also, I am still operating my old computer with 98SE and I was wondering if the change to XP is worth it...???
Thanks

Yeah, that dell restore disk won't work with a new PC.

I would go with XP for a new system, if it were me. XP has more features and security than Win. 98, and is more reliable. You can buy XP Home edition as OEM, from most online stores...to qualify as OEM (cheaper) you just need to buy a computer part with it.

Or for info...I got my OEM copy of XP off Ebay :D

Worth a look there too.

Good idea. You may get it a lot cheaper that way. I see that on ebay they are qualifying them as OEM, by including a cheap piece of hardware, such as "CD-audio cable, floppy drive cable, or IDE cable"...as listed on one sellers details.
