my desktop wont recognize my dvd rom

hello..
currently my computer pretty messed up.
suddenly my dvd rom wont work.
it wont even recognize that i have cd/dvd rom
i tried to restore with system restore on win xp but it still not working.
i have Windows Xp sp2 and sony Vaio Desktop.
all the drive came originial from manufacture.
any suggestion or any idea to share with me about my problem?

if the warenty is still on it call sony.

the warranty is already out.
i know its kind of pain in the neck , im just guessing its lack driver or something but im not sure whre to check the updates for sony.

Have you checked all the connection in the case yet ?
After you check the connections check your device manager for any error icons.

EDIT : Does the drive get any power at all ?
Can you see any lights on the DVD drive ?

un-install the dvd-rom driver, then re-install the dvd-rom. Suprisingly fixes alot of things.....
