Upgrading DVD reader to DVD burner on a Dell

Having the ability to watch dvd's is nice, but I have so much data I need to store away. Will any aftermarket DVD burner from Sony or similar replace my Dell DVD reader drive? If so, anything in particular good and reliable without breaking the bank?

Yes, it will swap out.

If you're tight on money, buy an older model. I have a Benq 1620, and it works great. It is last years model, so it sells for lass than $40 online (NewEgg).

Nec also has a DVDROM/Burner that is like 38 on newegg.com. with pretty fast burn and read speeds.
