As you all may have noticed, I'm building my lady friend a computer with a motherboard I got for a great deal.

Generally speaking, what happens to an AGP 4x/8x video card when you put it in a 4x slot? I'm curious because in this motherboard I purchased, it has a 4x slot. I think the motherboard supports mostly the oldest generation P4's out there.

The video card is, as said in the title, an XFX NVidia MX 4000 64MB 4x/8x.

Anyway, if I haven't properly explained the question it is this:
Will there be any ill effects of the functioning of my MX 4000 in the 4x slot?

my guess is that it would run like a 4x, its like trying to run an old game on a duel core processor, you only get half of the processor. so yeah my guess is it'll run like a 4x

I agree.
The card will still work fine, just probably not as fast as it could in an 8x. Used a 8x/4x card in a 4x slot and it worked fine so you should be ok too.

okay, I was mostly wondering about dampering the card's performance. As long as it doesn't hinder it too bad... thanks for the responces.
