PCI-Express VS AGP

In my A+ hardware course there was an arguement about the new PCI-E for video cards. I was hoping someone here could shed some light on the subject mainly concerning the PCI-E slot. Is it like PCI slots and use the motherboard bus with busmastery or is it like AGP and have its own bus? And how fast do they actually operate. I found some information on how fast the PCI-E can and should run at but nothing on how it actualy runs. hope someone can shed some light on the subject.

actualy the wikipedia article didnt give me ALL the info i needed mainly concerning the bus and how it works. but i found it on other forums and i got the answers i need. but thank you for the link
