XP msconfig setting botch

The other day I was messing around in the msconfig settings in XP. Well upon boot up, the OS reloaded, and all the drivers were wiped. I can install any hardware, I can't access the net (there is no LAN settings), I can't even read some word doc correctly. This is proving to be a big inconvience. Is there any hope beyond reformatting the HD, and reinstalling the OS? Mabye some utilities or tools mabye?
 
Well, do you have system restore enabled? You can roll back to a different day before the settings changed. Ultimatly, if you can't do this, repairing the installation might be an option.

If the system does not have the restore on then - you can try to clean boot the system using the msconfig from safe mode (go for the selective startup and uncheck the items and restart the system - check them one by one to know what exactly the problem is)
 
did you set it back to normal startup from selective startup? look at the picture attached:
