everyone said the 9600 XT was better than Geforce 5900 XT...

so I'm choosing out of these 2 cards now....

ATI Radeon 9600 XT 128Mb DDR

or

ATI Radeon 9800-SE 128Mb DDR (only $10 more)

which one is better performance?

9600 pro 128
9600 XT 256
9800 SE 128 all 4 pipe line cards.

9800 pro 128
9800 XT 256 All 8 pipe line card's.

Going from 64 to 128 is a good up grade.Going from 128 to 256 is a slight up grade.Going from 4 to 8 pipes is a good up grade. The new cards will come out soon and 9800 pro will take another big price crash.

Havent seen a reveiw of a 9800SE yet but have seen a 9600 pro VS a 9600 SE.SE trialed the pro by about 25 %.I think the gap between a 9800 SE and a 9800 pro would be bigger. 4 pipe card vs 8 pipe.I really consider the XT cards a gimmick and having 256 memory not worth it.

146 9600 pro
167 9800SE
170 9600 XT
233 9800 Pro
From your chooses id say 9800 SE but urge you to waiti till 9800pro gets cheaper.

wait...9800-SE is 5 dollars cheaper...and it's better????

AWSOME

what are the clock speeds and stuff?

The 9800 SE is much faster (20-40 %) and does better with 4X AA and 16X AF. The performance is equal to a 9700 pro, so much so you would think they were the same cards!

9800 se doesnt support directx 9 does it? Thought thats was only pro and XT, if not utilizing dx 9 then AA and AF wont benefit any

ok 9800se does support dx9 but its a bad card ingenaral dont get t stick with the xt you will like the performance SE= sucky edition

The difference between the 9800 SE, 9800, 9800 pro, and 9800 XT is this.

The 9800 SE has clock speeds of 380/675 with 128 bit memory and 4 pipelines.

the 9800 has clock speeds 325/580 with 256 bit memory and 8 pipelines

the 9800 Pro has clock speeds of 380/680 with 256 bit memory and 8 pipelines

the 9800 XT has clock speeds of 412/730 with 256 bit memory and 8 pipelines

I have to appologize, I was talking about the standard 9800 and confused it with the 9800 SE. The 9800 SE is not as fast as a 9700, it is about equal to a 9600 Pro. They both support DX9. As it is more expensive than a 9600 Pro I can not recommend it. The standard 9800 is a great card however and is equal to a 9700 Pro, but again is as expensive or more than a 9700 pro. To make a long posting short, I would go with the 9600 XT. It is much faster than the 9800 SE
