Which would you use and which is better

Pentium 4 640

or

Pentium D 830 , 840

Dual core needs certain motherboards, ?? I'm curious which kind

thank you
Ralph

Depends on what you are going to do with your computer? Are you going to do a lot of things at the same time? Then I would go with the dual core.

For all around computing, the D would be better. You need a 945 or 955 chipset for the dual core. The 945 being the budget boards and the 955 being the higher-end boards.

For all around computing: P4 630
For gaming now: P4 630
For gaming in the future: Pentium D 830/840
For programs that support SMP: Pentium D 830/840

unclear

Can Anyone explain to me also , what the difference is with a

945P chipset board and 945G chipset board, for a Dual Core Pentium .... Is it just me , or do they differ in size ???
The board I use now is a ASUS P4P800SE and I was looking at these two items..

Asus P5LD2 (i945P) and the AUA P5LD2-VM (i945G) ...
What does "VM" signify and do both board require different powers??

Thanks again
