Building a computer ***updated list***

I got an ok from my parents to build a new computer!!! We need a new one badly seeing the one we have now is a celeron with less than 800mghz... Anyway, here's where I need some major help:\

My parents said that I could spend 1000 on a new computer, including a new monitor. I think I might kick in 300 to help make the computer a tad better. So try to keep the configs at max under $1300 plz

So does anyone have any advice on what I should get?

Here are some helpful things I'll tell ya

• I like to multitask, I enjoy listening to music, talking to people on msn messenger and on cam too, playing games online,and surfing the web etc. I also have micomedia flash, fireworks, etc. and paintshop pro.... so i really need a new computer
  
• I'm planning on burning mp3 cds, and dvd data cds, o and mabe even dvds!!! :^)
  
• No need for at really expensive set of speakers or audio card i dont think....though I think I'd like a set of speakers that weren't that spendy<== if I have extra $ lol, but not a top priority since i have 2 small computer speakers lol.
  
• I'll probably want to play World of Warcraft, since I want to see what thats all about. And also play some other pretty good graphic games but i don't want to spend too much on a graphics card.
  
• I'd like to have my system upgradable. As in a good motherboard that will allow lots of expantion
  
• I run too many programs at once so ram would be nice^^
  
• As far as the whole overclocking thing goes, I've never done it and the guy that I know that is really good at computer is gonna move so...:\ So I probably wouldn't overclock...

You're so lucky I'm a nice guy and took almost 30 minutes to write this up. The total price comes to $959.73, including EVERYTHING you need, EVEN The good speakers.

Along with a 17 inch monitor!!

I would make a better intel based system, but i am to lazy to hunt parts down on newegg.......

EDIT: I highly suggest a different, higher quailty PSU than the one that is listed in SAM's build.

That is a very good system for 950 bucks!

Only thing i might change is the monitor. Dose he really need a monitor with built in speakers if he is getting the Logitechs? If he decides to put his 300$ in he could get a really nice monitor like the ViewSonic 191b. The monitor determines your whole Computer experience, your looking at it the whole time your on your computer, you want to make sure you get something thats easy on your eyes after hours and hours of stareing at it. And something thats gona be sharp and chrisp and has the proper britness. If you get a cheap monitor your gona be pissed everytime you have to read fuzzy/blury text on the internet or anywhere else.

The PSU that comes with the case would be enough for this computer I bet. Its not like its a beast or anything, dont get me wrong, its a great computer and should run just about any game out right now on high to mid high settings.

17 in. monitor I hate small screens<== do ya think it would be a good idea to get a bigger crt?

Well since your on a budget I would say go CRT. To get a good 19" LCD you gota fork over a lot more money. And a CRT would probably out perform it anyway.

Isn't that basicly a 2gig processor? Why do you suggest this processor over something like the new dual AMD processors?

lets compare prices shall we?? the processor is great for overclocking but i would not choose that over a duel core processor. A) pfff duel cores duh B) there arent any games that support duel cores yet but in a coule of mothers there will be and then that's when it'll own. C) duel cores are insane for multitasking, especially the ones by AMD. D) the prices AMDs duel cores start at like 575... yet the venice is around 250 i think?
