My new PC; I would like opinions please

Hi, I have recently bought a PC. I want it just for playing games, multimedia and surfing the net. These are the specs:

-2.4 ghz Athlon XP (XP Professional)
-6 USB, of which 2 are USB 2.0
-X800 Pro Radeon 256meg VIVO
-1 GB of ram (2800 speed)
-200 GB hardrive
-5.1 sound card (not onboard)
-DVD drive
-Floppy disk drive
-17" flatscreen
-Keyboard
-Mouse

I know 2.4 GHZ isn't massive, but it is better than what I have now. My questions are:

1. Is it a good PC?
2. Will it play games like DOOM 3, Far Cry, HL2, F.E.A.R and Age Of Empires 3 at good settings? I want to be able to play all the next-gen games. I will be updating the processor later on.

It should play those games you listed pretty well. A pro upgrade down the road would be neccessary to round it out but videocard than ram than pro for gaming so no worries.

It would play games decently, but it does lack in the video card area.

Cannot support the instructions needed for newer games. A card with it's power level should be able to make stuff look all purdy.

So you're saying my x800 can't play DOOM 3 or HL2 on all high settings etc?

Those games*, but not others

*X800 pro cannot use Shader Model 3, which means Half-Life 2 Lost coast, Splinter Cell Chaos Theroy, Farcry and possibly BF2.
