p4 ht vs dual core

you know p4's have hyperthreading i was wondering will this act the same way as a dual core processor because hyperthreading is like another virtual core just wondering
 
Well HT is all logical. HT tricks windows into thinking 2 CPU's exsist. Windows then sends 2 threads to the CPU. HT allows 1 thread to be halted and let the other one go really quick, halts that one, and lets the other one go. so on and so forth.

Dual Core is like having 2 cpu's but on 1 CPU. So you will be able to run 2 different threads at the same time unlike HT. Dual Core technology is physical.

Is windows programmed to do this?
 
Windows itself is not programmed to do that as Windows is single threaded. The processor is basically detected as a physical processor and a virtual second processor and applications will detect and send more than one thread at once if they are programed to send multiple threads at once

This is why Intel processors excel greatly in multitasking and 3D rendering and other CPU intensive tasks, whereas AMD still dominates gaming enviroments. Games will only send one thread at a time and hyperthreading is rendered useless.

Obviously a dual core is a superior processor since there are physically two cores and two threads can actually be processed at once, rather than qued. Ironically, the Pentium Ds still have hyperthreading therefore programs will send out as many as four threads as once, two to each core

Only the Pentium D 840 EE offers Hyperthreading. for a price. :eek:
