Help!!!!- Computer Wont Work

Thanks alot Warez Monster, i will try it and then i will let you know how it goes... also do you have a clue why the mouse will move and not let her click on the taskbar (or will the steps fix that)

What happens when she tries to click on the taskbar? and are you saying the mouse moves on its own?

no she can move the mouse, but when she click on the START menu it just shows here the "hour glass" mouse icon. and doesn't open up the start menu. (This computer is xp)

Even with all of the recommendations we give, it might be worth it to reinstall. Sounds like her pc is hosed by spyware and who knows what else, but do the recomm. first, see if there is any difference, it will only take a few minutes.

also what is AV and FW?

run task manager and end explorer.exe

2. wait a second or two, then access the task manager again and select "new task". type in explorer.exe and see if it still hangs on the start menu

AV= antivirus
FW=firewall

Hijackthis will delete entries where spyware etc resides.

she doesn't have a firewall or antivirus, got any suggestions

AVG is free

I use Zone Alarm 6, there is also a free version of that
