Hi All
I have this weird file lurking on my C:\ folder. Its name is 78875.sym. If I open it with notepad, the contents look like they are encrypted. Even if I delete it, it appears again later. Did anyone have this weird situation before? Is there anyway to stop a file from being created? I dont know which application creates it.
Please help

Go to C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch and delete that folder

Go to start, run, type msconfig, go to startup, disable everything except antivirus and firewall if you have one.

Go to that file and rename it whatever you want if it will let you.

Delete these entrie, your log looks fine

Run this

CCleaner

and reboot

Thanks a lot Warez Monster. It looks like the problem has been fixed. Now i dont see the file. I ran CCleaner and it did a good job cleaning out the crap.
I also get another file called c:\debugoutput.txt. When I open it in notepad I see just numbers in it.
It does a similar thing too. It gets deleted when I delete it but later after a reboot it appears again.
Also should I delete the whole Prefetch folder or just the contents inside it?
Is there anyway to know which application created the 78875.sym file? A google search doesnt give anything worthful.
Thank you for your extremely quick help.

Just delete the whold folder. It will appear again when you reboot.

You might have something installed on your system the is made with C++, both of those files are from C++

Both the files 78875.sym and debugoutput.txt have been created again on my system at C: drive. Is there any method through which i can track the program which creates them?
If I know the program I will be able to uninstall it. They cause no harm but the debugoutput.txt file just keeps increasing in size. And the 78875.sym file has encrypted data in it which I want to look into.
Thanks
