Hello all just joined, so this is my first post here. I'm building a HUGE gaming system, and i was wondering about using a single sata drive for my os, and a raid 0 with 2 or more disks for my games, is this a good way to go? i'll put all of my system specs under this for review.

Mobo= Asus p5nd2-sli deluxe

Cpu= P4 EE 3.73 "confidetial" (unlocked multiplier)

RAM= 2 gigs Corsair XMS2 DDR2 8000UL (1000 MHZ)

Hard drive= (OS) (1) Maxtor diamondmax 9 60gig

Hard drive= (RAID 0 game array) (4) western digital 74 gig Raptors

Video cards= (2 SLI) 7800GTX's

sound card= sound blaster audigy 2ZS

OS= windows XP home for now (probably switch to proffessional soon

2 320w peltier coolers with dedicated power supply (for ambient case temperature

complete Danger Den water cooling system for both video cards, CPU, And northbridge. Enheim 1260 Ac pump (600 GPH) Black ice extreme III radiator and two reseviors

you should just buy one raptor put the OS on there, and buy like one 300GB hdd and just use that for storage, dont raid them together just let them stand alone...and if your gaming i would go with an amd, cause its better for gaming. and its the best

No need for RAID whatsoever, just get a 30gig HD for O/S. Get 1 maybe 2 250 gig'ers and partition them. Gaming, the only game my P4 out-performs my A64 is Flight Sim 2004 (with all my add-ons) but thats about it. Go with an AMD rig for "serious gaming"

amd athlon 3700+, fx-57. or X2 4800+ toledo core with 2MB cache

DFI nF4 SLI-DR

(2) eVGA 7800GTX

1 WD raptor

1 300GB hdd what ever seagate barracuda

sound card= sound blaster audigy 2ZS

OS= windows XP home for now (probably switch to proffessional soon

2 320w peltier coolers with dedicated power supply (for ambient case temperature

complete Danger Den water cooling system for both video cards, CPU, And northbridge. Enheim 1260 Ac pump (600 GPH) Black ice extreme III radiator and two reseviors

OCZ ram works better with DFI board, and i dont personally dont like the XMS series

No offense, but i hate AMD. my unlocked 3.73 and ram with endless overclocking potential will close the gap in gaming performance, and still blast through ordinary tasks that AMD lags at.

If your prefer Intel to AMD then you prefer Intel to AMD :) whatever we say we cant make you buy the kit, in the end its down to you, however I would recommend you go XP Pro and have a nice juicy PSU to power everything properly I use a 550W ColoursIT (aye, not the quietest on the market but they do the job) PSU's in all my rigs without struggle

lets talk about the real point here, which is the hdd question

i say just buy one raptor for the OS and buy one for storage. this is what most people do.

EDIT: make sure you get an SLI ready psu.

i believe the enermax one and the pcpower and cooling are recommend by nvidia for SLi setups

Links went tits up

and i do like the Scarlet/Black Shark they have the "Monarch Nemesis FX-57 7800 SLI Gaming Desktop Special " in, much better than the stock aluminium

good suggestions, thanks. But this computer will not be used for storage. i have a seperate computer that i'll be using for a server. so should i install the os on a raid array or a single drive? and what about the hard drives for games? raid 0 with two raptors should work great.
