trouble rebooting

ok here goes........i am trying to reformat and reinstall xp i get up to where it says setup is copying files this portion of setup has completed computer will restart ............ but hten when it does restart i keep getting message "couldnt open drive multi(o)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) NTLDR: couldnt open drive bla bla I have tried a hundred times (no lies) and it still happens if i take the xp cd out and restart computer i get a blank screen with cursor blinking in top left corner................ PLEASE any one know what I can do??
I have 2 hds and i have tried them both seperately and same thing happens??
ANY suggestions im getting desperate and computer looks like it might end up out the window soon!!
ps im on my daughters computer in case u wondering how im online

Ok What is happening here is You format the HDD

But it not Formated Properly

THE MBR is not Formatted ! and it Contain old record

Put HDD in your daughters computer Delete all Paritions

Recreate Partition & do not Quick format

Do a full format & activate the Partition in which u want to install OS

& then Try

ok when i put my hdd into daughters computer her computer wont start up i have made sure its on slave drive

OK u have put ur hdd in daughters computer and computer is not starting

ur daughters HDD is primary
and urs is slave
OK

Let me know i am correct or not &
also tel me what is showing in POST(means bios is detecting the drives or not)
Make sure it shows the entry of 2 harddisk & one for
cdrom/writer/dvd if daughters computer have.

Or you see only blank Screen ?

ok if anyone else is out there i will tell u what ive done....
i have done complete format of my hdd and i can boot from disk and xp copies files into my hdd it says this portion of setup has completed computer will restart but.......................
then get message couldnt open drive multi(0)disk(0) rdisk(0) partition(1)
also i have put my daughters hdd into my computer (coz hers has windows xp up and running fine but when i start computer just a black screen with cursor in left hand side and nothing else happens (sorry i konow ive repeated myself a billion times)
any suggestions?????
