Why do amds run at lower frequecy but are faster than intel?

When people say this....it's generally an indication of whatever reason they may have is probably a joke...

You have ridiculous prices for macs and for what? Their 'cool' hippy ass designs? No thanks, give me a crappy beige case that'll do it's job for $1000 less
 
Aye, let's not turn this into an intel vs. amd vs. mac battleground people

The question was simply why AMD are able to competetively benchmark and perform with a higher clocked Intel processor, not which is better, we have a sticky for that ;). That article indeed went over the fine print nicely

It should be noted that Intel is giving up on the Netburst technology found in Pentium 4s now and are reverting back to an older, improved P3 architecture, which will perform more IPC. This has already been demonstrated in the Pentium Ms that you see running <2GHz.
