Which Is Faster ?

The Celeron runs on a faster clock speed but that doesnt mean it has higher performance.

The P3 has twice the cache, i would think the P3 is better.

This barely is the reason at all for peformance difference, its all the CPU artechture.

This is like comparing a 1.8GHZ Athlon 64 to a 2.2GHZ Celeron.

But arnt Celerons just P3's with cache disabled and sometimes a lower fsb (well it is that for newer CPU's)

Obviously the Celeron is <faster>. It says so in the GHz number.

But the Pentium III has a higher throughput since it does more instructions per clock cycle.

<Faster> NOT= <throughput>

Never pose a question asking which is faster. Always ask about how much work it can do.

Exactly. Same goes with P III and Celeron. But the original question didn't ask for what is more <efficient> or which does more <instructions per second>.

By definition the Celeron mentioned in the original question is <faster> than the P III, but is not <better>.
