A holdback? meaning that 1 gb is not enough?! that's horrible. I have a 6800GT with 1 gb? I went with 1 gb because everyone said that 2 gb was overkill. In order to upgrade to 2 gb i have to ditch my 2 sticks of 512. That's crappy.

I've played both games with a 6600GT and 512mb, they run fine.

What is your res and settings? 1gb is the min at medium/high settings. 1.5 or 2 your ram can breath easy.

Chris, Im surprised you dont shut down all those other programs when you play.

This is ridiculous. So Im sitting here with a whopper card, and my RAM is what is bottlenecking the system. I have a buyer for my old RAM. But i dont want to do it unless its gonna give me a NOTICABLE increase in performance

Battlefield 2:

1024*768, everything on medium, antialiasing off.

F.E.A.R.:

1024*768
World Detail - Maximum
Corpse Detail - Maximum
Shadows - Medium
Lighting - Maximum
Anti-sotropic filtering (spelt right?) - 2x
Physics - Maximum
Effects - Maximum
No Anti - aliasing

From my experience of both games, BF2 would appear alot more memory hungry than FEAR, as if I set any option to high it would instantly go all laggy on me.

Lets see, i get highest settings with aa, and everything at 800x600 for bf2 on singleplayer demo. This is with a X300SE and 1GB memory.
