Upgrading ram from 512 to 1024mb. I currently have a 512 pc 2700, what is the difference between a pc 2700 and a pc 3200? Will a pqi TURBO 1GB (2x512mb) 184 pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 replace a pc2700 512? Sorry about all the corny questions lately, but I guess I havent found all the right research resources

PC 2700 is slower than PC3200. If you have PC2700 and PC3200 on the same motherboard, then the PC3200 will underclock to PC2700 speeds. If you get PQI Turbo 1GB, and take out the old PC2700, you should be fine.

If you won't be overclocking, or don't know what overclocking is, then get Corsair ValueSelect PC3200/DDR400 memory. 1Gb of that costs $89.

wel....

the differens between pc 2700 and pc 3200 isnt too big but pc 3200 is at 400mhz and pc2700 is at 333mhz so 3200 is faster but it is slightly cheaper too so i'd go with the 3200.

and yes a pc3200 1gig 2x512 should be able to replace the pc 2700 512 but check your motherboard to make sure it is compatible with dual channel ram and if it is compatible with pc 3200. but if it is then you should be fine.

I am working off an emachines w2888 2.8GHZ 80GB 512MB DDR SDRam. I have been looking for the specifications for it since I dont know where to look on the actual board itself, but I havent had any luck finding anything on the mother board. It has dual slots(?) one has the current 512mb in it. Does this tell anyone anything?

Okay #1: Their is no such thing as dual channel ram. The motherboard determines if the RAM will run in dual channel (and the processor for AMD's case)

#2: Your celeron has a 533mhz FSB. This means it will not support PC3200 at full speed, it will run at 2700 speeds/

So your telling me.....? If this is two 512mb Ram's then there are actually two seperate cards right? Sorry to be so ignorant but, I just am. I appreciate the response.
