My cd drives wont read movies?

I have a iomega cd-rw 12x10x32x and a dvd-rw panasonic (that i got off newegg recently) and they both wont play movies. The old iomega just spits out a movie without any error or anything but i can use it for data discs and the newer dvd-rw comes up with an error about not being able to decode in windows media player(i was told this was a oem cd drive but i have no software)

whats the deal?

A CD drive cannot do DVDs. Common sense on that call.

You may be lacking the proper codecs for WMP to play the DVDs.

Have you tried a different program to play the movies? The VLC media player is really good, and it is free. Here's a link:
