Have been looking at a couple of cards... would you recommend any of the following? My system, but the way, is a HP a430n AMD 3200+ 2.2 GHz, w/ 1GB Ram, 160GB HD, 4xDVD burner, CD player & currently GeForce4 MX-440 AGP 8X

POWERCOLOR R41BG-ND3 Radeon X700 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card $119

CHAINTECH SA6600 Geforce 6600 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - $117

POWERCOLOR R98E-SD3B Radeon 9800SE 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - $125

Rosewill R6600-256D Geforce 6600 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - $115

Also, what's the main difference between XT, OC, GT, etc. versions of cards? Thanks and sorry for the ignornance. Would love to follow Shawn's advice since I like to play games, but am restrained by a budget and those cards, so far, have exceeded the range I can go.

Are you sure you dont have 20 dollasr more for 148 dollars for a 6600GT. anyways the difference between XT, OC, and GT is like a different version of that same card. like a camry LE, EX, CE. etc etc. they are all the same but they have different things.

out of those 4 i would say the 9800 vs the 6600 is resonablly matched, but the 6600 only has 128bit memory. but the 6600 is recently new compared to the aging 9800. the x700 looks a little bit better then the 6600 if you look here

lOL in half life 2 a x700 beats two 6800GTs and 2 6800Ultras. LOL! and one 6600GT beats two 6800ultras. anyways ithought that was funny, half life 2 is most deinfetly an ati card game now doom is a totally different thing . it really depends on the game

half life 2 x700 wins

doom3 6600 wins

unreal x700 wins

sims2 x700 wins

chronicles of riddik x700 wins

3dmark05 x700 wins

Okay, if I was able to get the extra, the cards w/in that range for the 6600GT appear to have 128DDR vice 256 for video RAM. Question, I guess, is are they still that much faster with the lesser RAM? Thanks... I took a look at these ones...

eVGA GeForce 6600 GT / 128MB DDR3 / AGP / DVI / TV-Out / Video Card

PNY VCG6600GAPB Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card (two DVI ports, but I'm taking it you can use an adapter for a VGA monitor?)

CHAINTECH SA6600G Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

Rosewill R66GT-128D Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

Any other suggestions other than these cards? I'm taking it these will all out-perform the X700?

Thanks again...

Just saw this one too for $139... how's this compare to those others in the last post? I was looking hard at the eVGA one, but this is intriguing too.

Leadtek A400 LE GeForce 6800 LE / 128MB DDR / 8x AGP / DVI /
VGA / TV-Out / Video Card

I just spoke to HP and they said I can't change my power supply (250 watts)... they said the motherboard/components are all set to work w/ this supply. Does that sound right? I thought you could update the power supply... if it is right, then it limits me somewhat in my video card search.

6600GT at the least.uhhhh. and for that im not sure. ive heard of it with dells but hp?? this is hewlet packerd there not gay like dell but if he tells u somehting not to do and u do and it brakes then ur screwed

I'm getting a little bit better at this... apparently, my mobo is an Asus A7N8X-LA which is one that's made, I guess, specifically for HP. As a result, they may/may not do things to it. I'm trying to find out if there's a power supply requirement for this board, but haven't found anything out yet. I'm taking it the DVD Writer, CD-Rom, sound card, etc. don't have special power requirements... seems like just a mobo thing here w/ HP. But, not sure if this is the "tech" guy who monitors the help and just looks things up or someone who actually knows what they're doing. Any way, if any one has any idea if this mobo will work fine w/ higher than a 250W psu pls. let me know! Thanks...
