best ram 4 my pc?

i was wondering if any of u guys could tell me the best ram 4 my pc. i am looking to upgrade from 512mb to 1gbor more. i am going to get ddr but could any of u guys tell me wat would be good and compatible 4 my pc. ps. i would prefer not to have to change settings to make the ram run properly.

all help needed and appreciated.

PC 100, 133.
FSB 266, 333, 400?
