I'm having trouble deciding who to buy from. My options are pretty much either Dell or Gateway right now.. I know everyone hates both.

I'm also looking at an HP too... All I really need it for is the internet and word processing for school.

I'd like about 2.0Ghz cpu, 60 gig HDD, 512 RAM, and 15" screen...

price range is about 1000-1500... graphics aren't too important, I'd just like to be able to play some lower end games..

any suggestions?

I would recommend HP over Dell and Gateway (Gateway's just eMachines now).
Shop and customize whatever you want here. I'd start with the one on the far right @ $579 and build it way up.

I would recommend a Centrino/Pentium M processor or a Turion (cheaper and pretty much the same thing)
512mb of memory (1gb isn't much more)
and a 12-cell battery (way longer battery life)

you can get a nice hp with a 3 year warranty

you can lower the 3 year warranty to get a lower price. also i gave you a 12 cell battery which is about 50 dollars more, and xp pro is about 25 dollars more. so im just giving you a ballpark and how much it is, its probably about 800-900 dollars with no warranty

thank you for the suggestions...

i know the warrenty is a good idea, but i'm reluctant because of the price. lol if i don't get it, something will happen, and if i do get it nothing will happen, i know it.

Buy the Dell Inspiron 6000 with that special coupon code

You'll get same exact specs, save a couple hundred dollars, and get an extra year on the warranty (4 years) if you buy the Dell.

Just trying to help.
