Nothing ever seems to work on the first try.

I have XP at home, trying to connect to it via remote desktop from my Windows 2K system at work. I know my IP address, remote desktop is enabled on my host machine, I have downloaded the software, but I just can't connect.

I have a Siemes Speedstream 4100 PPPoE DSL modem, I didn't see any firewall settings on the configuration page but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Anyone know if that's probably the problem? Is there a specific port on the modem I have to open?

And I can't ping my IP, when I do a tracert it times out before it hit's my IP.

I'm pretty sure it has to deal with the firewall at your work. Unless you have specials permissions you won't be able to connect through your company's firewall.
