OK,OK I wish you had told me to run it in a command page
Completed it and used the NET START (via NET HELPMSG 2182)
The command completed sucessfully.

Actually I copied and pasted the file.

Thank you for your help

1. I have established that sc.exe only runs properly in a cmd panel

2. For sfc \scannow

I Modified the Registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\Setup and modifying ServicePackSource to %windir%\ServicePackFiles

Runs normally now

Simple really when you know how.

ok, I guess I missed that. if you launch sc.exe from explorer, then when it's done it will close. Should have asked you... glad that you got it working...
oh and for the furture, if you want to run a program that is based in dos, always do it from CMD.exe. it's the best way to see what it's about... Any program if you execute it from cmd will either open a new window or run in the cmd window.

Good luck

We all keep learning - and I am 72 years old. it was enlightening to discuss with you! CU soon!
