DVD/RW compatibility

I have an external Firewire CD writer (Yamaha CRW21001X) which I have been using crossplatform Mac&PC. Now I would like to replace the CDRW drive with a DVD/RW drive. I bought an internal PiKAone brand DVD/RW drive and swaped the CDRW drive. The problem is that my Mac didn't recognise this drive. Would any one suggest a supported DVD/RW drive to be used crossplatform? Thank you
