Hey everyone, I am looking into building a computer for the first time. I am a senior in college with fairly good computer knowledge but I have never looked into hardware much. I know basically nothing about building computers so all help is appreciated. Don't feel bad about telling me I am an idiot and suggesting something different. Keep in mind that I am a poor college student who wants to get the best gaming system possible for less than $2,000.

Here is some stuff I was looking at from NewEgg. Take a look and mage suggestions or additions that I am missing. Many thanks.

I am sure that I am way off on what I should be getting on a bunch of things but since this is my first time you have to expect that. I understand that some things are low end like the sound card but I am willing to give up some things like that in order to still have the money to get stuff to make the gaming better. Sorry for the long post, this is my first time on this forum. THANKS! :p

ok "idiot" lol jk. your mobo has a pcie which your graphics card is agp so that doesnt work

i would get the DFI nF4 SLi for around 200 dollars
either 2 6800GT's or a 7800GTX
and i would get a different power supply
an antec, enermax or an OCZ powerstream power supply, very nice

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130235
with bf2 cause its cheaper then the one without bf2, weird??

anyways then the total would be 1860 and right now nothign NOTHING can beat the 7800GTX except 2 7800GTX. so when you got some money you can always buy another 7800GTX to put in SLi

EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: well im guessing the 7800GTX is out of the question now

269 dollars

1909 with 6800GT and 2GB of ram

what im wondering is if your going to be Overclocking and is this just for gaming and do you plan on upgrading soon

instead of buying a 300GB hdd you can always buy like 2 160GB and put them in raid 0 or raid 0+1 or raid 1 or raid 5 or raid 10 or whatever raid you feel like. i believe you can get faster performance by using raid.
im not sure i never raided before

I don't really even need a bunch of space, I just figured it might be good to have the 300 but if 160 has faster performance I would probably just go for that.

Is there anything that I am missing that you need to have?

Also does it look like the things would all fit and work together?

Thanks a ton for the links and info, I will check into em and put together a new list of what I am looking at buying and post it.

you can buy like two seagate barracudas 80GBs and raid them together so that half the data goes on one data the other half goes on the other so you can find data quicker and read something faster and something and blah blah blah blah i mean i really dont know what im doing. so im just going to say you might want to get a 10000rpm drive. like a WD raptor or a seagate cheetah

...WOW WOW WOW who would spend 500 dollars on a 147GB 15,000rpm harddrive. wow anyways it

anyways how much space do you think you going to use. do you store a lot of vidoes and songs . or

OH WHOOPS I FORGOT THE RAM!!!!

How hard is it to raid 2 80GB hds together? 160GB is probably fine for me if it increases performance.

For some reason I thought I had ram comming with something but I guess not. <--- moron.

all you do i believe is just plug the 2 hdds together stick a floppy drive that is supposed to come with your mobo, mines did but i dont need to use it cause i only ahve 1 hdd. and im guessing thats it. but if you are going to raid then i would suggest the seagate barracuda 80GB hdd for 64 dollars x 2 would be...64+64 is ....$128...woot woot....anyways and that extra 10 dollars can go for shipping lol, shipping is going to be like 60 dollars.
