just joined .. can anyone tell me the reason why after fdisk and format a hard drive comes up with unknown system format ?

more info please....

Why are you trying to use Fdisk/format hard drive? (fresh install of operating system?, Virus?, new hardware?)

Operating System?

Computer Specs?

Because theres no Operating system, no system files, no boot path, hence the error message
 
first off, what operating system are you putting to it? for instance, if it's 98, you would need to create a primary dos partition...

otherwise, if you are doing XP, is your cd bootable? if it is, did you set the BIOS boot sequence to pick up your cd drive first?

and if you ARE doing XP, why are you fdisk'ing? 2000/XP has a neato little delete partition option within the setup.
