what is going to be the main use of this pc?

Its going to be for everything, photoshop, multimedia, but mainly gaming

I want to get this as a base computer then upgrade from there

I will work out the best system i can for around 1600-1700 AU and get back to u i know some good sites.

The setup looks fine but if you can afford it i would suggest a
AMDx2
DFI Mobo
6800GT

the CPU you have now wont perform aswell as most of AMDs 64 processors and since you also want to do some multimedia stuff i would suggest the X2.

But if you cant afford it that system is fine on your budget.

What kind of multimedia? If your part of multimedia does not include heavy video, I recomend going the AMD route.

And for the video card, going the 6800GT route would be better, if you want an explination why just search around here

yeah, i would do exactly what DJ said.

If you use that site i provided you could save $200 easy.

If you tell us your max budget and what exactly you want to do on it i am sure we can get something better together.

but see the problem is if he gose with the X800 line it will be no good in like the next 2-3 years, it is allready showing signs of age.

he should go with a card with PS3 and something better then a 6600.
