Laptop making quiet "clicking" noise

Mine did that, but it was pretty damn loud. It would scare the hell out of me whenever it did it, but nothing bad ever happened. Just ignore it and see what happens.

Mine did this too, it's a harddrive platter crash.

Mine's more of a cluck than a click... Damned loud though

A cluck would be a better way of describing mine as well. What do you mean platter crash?

personaly i would not be worried about it, mine makes all sorts of strange noises but then mine is ~ 13 years.

back-ups are always a good idea even if there is nothing seeming to be wrong

Its a compaq contura given to me by my dad i think its mar "92 although i cant check that.

in an HDD the slider is suspended above the platter and can come in contact with a platter especialy if moved while in operation.

yes all labtops make that noise its whent he hdd is working and speeding up when its dong a job. As my Ibook does teh same sometimes.
